That definitely isn’t a word I would use to describe my life. Messy, disorganized, hectic, fun…just to list a few. I work full time and have two small kids (well, three if you include my husband). Consequently, I feel like I barely have enough time to make sure I eat at least two meals a day and squeak in an hour at the gym, all while blinking and watching my kids sprout up like beanstalks. Furthermore, I call it a success if I get my hair washed three times a week and if I can get the kids bathed and in bed before nine. Am I sane? Yes. Am I silly? Oh definitely yes. Sophisticated? I’m working on it.
Even though my life may be a mess at times, I can at least trick everyone into believing I have it all together on the outside, right? Getting dressed and ready in the morning are some of the few things in my life that happen easily. Luckily I can say the same for my daughter, because she picked out a 20-year-old, cobalt blue, sequin halter dance recital costume to wear to Vacation Bible School tonight…are picking up on my sarcasm?
My husband and I were kid free for a whole week while the kids were at Vacation Bible School with my parents and in-laws, and we spent 90% of our free time in the bath with a glass of wine or in the bed binge watching Game of Thrones. We did go out (once) to our favorite sushi bar. Most noteworthy – this pretty ruffled blouse. It was definitely an effortless choice, because it’s equal parts flirty and sophisticated, which was perfect for our little summer date night. We laughed, ate, and just genuinely got to have a great time together. It was the summer break we desperately needed, and we can come back from it refreshed and re-energized, and ultimately more thankful for the life we have and cherish so much.
